I do know that I struggled with it in the past. But had absolutely no idea what self love meant. Most of us know that it is true. We love the idea but have no idea where to start or what to do. Now let’s make sure we have a clear conception of what self love is exactly.
Firstly, you mustn’t confuse self love with being selfish. Let’s hit that on the head first, sound good? I come to realize that those people who think that were never taught to love them self. So how do you love yourself?
Self love is the art of finding, accepting and showing gratitude for all the wonderful things that you are. It is the development of a satisfying rewarding and fulfilling daily rituals. And self love by no means is a perfect life or everlasting happiness. But the capacity to invite compassionate feelings and relationship towards yourself, no matter what life throws at you.
To love yourself means taking care of the daily basic needs. Life physical movement, self care, healthy eating and importantly good sleeping habits. And of course it means treating yourself too! Like that piece of chocolate (Shhh I won’t tell!) and not feeling so guilty about it. You will get back to it the next day. When our actions are controlled by fear, it more of a survival tactic rather than self love.
Self love is also deep breathing and coming back to center to reconnect to who we are beyond our scars and wounds. Then following our heart and giving true expressions to our feelings.

To live a life of self love this means you fully support yourself emotionally, spiritually physically and mentally. Then this means you are paying attention to your own needs and taking action. So let’s take a breath from our hectic life and observe your way through these questions. I recommend doing this daily with following through with what action you will take. Here we go…
- What is the most loving thing I can do for myself right now today?
- Am I giving full attention to what I need and want?
- Speak to myself with kindness and compassion?
- Am I taking care of my health?
- Allow myself to feel whatever it is I need to feel?
- Treat myself with respect?
The journey of self love will always be unfolding and evolving by the actions we take. As you are listening to your soul you are giving yourself respect. As our actions will express our inner being. And this is self love in motion. When we evolve into the person who sometimes does not have to be understood by everyone…That is the manifestation of self love. No one will give you permission to take care of you. This is being responsible for your own life.
And the huge bonus or me was when I learned to show myself respect, compassion and trust myself, And when I recognized my self worth that is when I was able to truly love myself. and it lead me to my wonderful Husband who I adore.
